What Is PCD Reamer
PCD reamer is made up primarily of PCD tips and tools steel/Carbide as substrate. The PCD material is a kind of polycrystalline diamond. The PCD blade is a synthetic product made from diamond powder, it is sintered under high temperature and high pressure, and its hardness can reach HV8000-10000. The PCD material is mainly from well-known manufacturing suppliers: including Element Six(E6), GE, ILJIN, SMITH, and Sumitomo. The PCD reamers’ body is produced with high qualified carbide or tool steel.

- Step 2 Rough Machining

Step 2 Rough Machining
It mainly includes tool body performing and chip grooves’ making. The manufacturing machining contains CNC turning and milling, cylindrical grinding,5-Axis CNC making the flutes, and heat treatment.
- Step 3 Laser Cutting

By software calculation and layout, the laser machine can cut the PCD disk into related small blades, the laser cutting can make sure each size is consistent, which is convenient for the next step.
- Step4 Vacuum Brazing

Step4 Vacuum Brazing
Before brazing, we will stick the PCD blades to the brazing grooves with silver solder, then put them into a vacuum brazing furnace and bake for 20minutes at a temperature of 800 degrees. The process can ensure the silver solder is fully melted and stuck closely. Therefore, the tipped PCD couldn’t fall off even if working in high-speed turning or strong hitting.

5-axis Vollmer Wire Cutting is one of the best ways to produce PCD forming cutting tools. Its excellent performance, handleability, and stability help us finish all kinds of complicated PCD reamers works. The cold-oil processing environment significantly improves the cutting blade finish, and the surface finish can reach Ra0.4. We have three sets of Vollmers to offer service for all projects.

Sometimes, there is a requirement for smoothness when processing the aluminum holes. Therefore, we need to grind the cutting edge. On the one hand, this process can improve the PCD finish significantly, but on the other hand, a less sharp cutting edge reduces the vibration of the hole wall, Most important of all, tight accuracy to be within 0.002mm after cylindrical grinding.

Step 7 Measure
Once we have finished the Wire Cutting or grinding process, we will do a complete test on the tool Zoller, including every diameter, angle, and arc. All of them need to be checked by the program before passing to our QC. Some cutting tools with HSK and BT shank need to do a dynamic balance test to ensure the concentricity of the PCD reamer is within 0.002mm when rotating.

It is the final step. According to the special needs of customers, we will provide surface sand-blasting or oxidation treatment for the PCD reamers, The purpose of this process is mainly to ensure the surface looks good and rust prevention. Meanwhile, the laser marking for model information is available for different demands.

Big data shows that for the straight handle reamer with less than 4 teeth, we usually take about 7-15 days to finish them. 15-25 days for HSK handle BT handle reamers and 20-35 days for flange handle reamers.
